Throughout the school Literacy is taught as both a means to enjoyment and as a fundamental life skill. The areas of reading, writing, spelling, grammar, speaking and listening are taught through a variety of approaches, which allow discussion, language exploration, reflection, and identification of personal targets. Often teaching is cross-curricular. Reading is taught through a structured phonics scheme (Letters & Sounds) and a colour banded reading scheme until our readers are confident to enjoy reading freely.
